What is Mediation?

Mediation is a confidential formal process that allows participants to formulate self-determined agreements with each other in a non-threatening professional environment.

How long will Mediation take?

Depending on the complexity of your issues the average mediation takes approximately 8 hours, this time is divided into 2 to3 sessions.

A preliminary meeting will be held where an assessment will be made and the mediation process will be explained in more detail.

Mediation sessions will be arranged to meet participants’ requirements, including after hours and weekends.

What are the benefits of Mediation?

  • Mediation encourages business relationships to be maintained during problem solving
  • It provides an opportunity for all participants to express their concerns
  • It is strictly confidential and focuses on the future, not the past
  • It is cheaper and less stressful than going to Court
  • Participants are able to reach agreements that they find mutually acceptable
  • The cost of mediation is shared by the participants.

The role of the mediator is:

  • To remain neutral
  • Not to give advice or make judgements
  • To maintain confidentiality
  • To facilitate the mediation process
  • To identify and explore options to resolve the dispute
  • If required, give referrals to other services.

What do mediators do?

  • They improve communication so that issues may be clarified and allow venting by participants
  • They test the validity of proposed solutions advanced by participants
  • They ensure that all agreements reached are fair and equitable.
